Re: clipping images

Thanks. I am designing a book cover with InDesign. I have made the cover of the book blue. I have a photograph of the author, full length, which I want to "cut out" to stick on the blue. At the moment, if I place the photo on the cover, I get the person, then the white background of this rectangular photo. If I were doing this on paper, I would be clipping round the image of the person and glueing them on to the blue cover. How do I do this in Photoshop? I realise from what you say that I must make those white pixels behind the person invisible or transparent. But how? The InDesign guide says this must be done in Photoshop before importing. Caroline
